False Economy

I’d like you to consider a true story about a pair of boots I bought back in 1972. I was working in a Mill and was required to wear leather boots with at least 6” tops. Now at that time a good pair of boots could be purchased at Sears, Wards or Pennys for about $25.00.  Now in a moment of what my then wife called lunacy I bought a pair of brand name boots for $85.00, Which she immediately insisted I return them, And, that I see a psychiatrist because I’d lost my mind. Of which I did neither.

Now you may be wondering what me buying a pair of boots in 1972. Has to do with a blog about Walters Water Valves. Let me explain.

Because of the work environment I was needing to buy a new pair of boots every year. That $85.00 pair of boots lasted me for 12 years. By the time I needed to replace them that cheap pair of boots was then closer to $40.00. So my average cost for my boots was about $7.00 per year versus $25.00 to $45.00 per year. The moral of the story is that the cheapest initial cost is not necessarily the most economical.

However just for illustration purposes, let’s just figure the cost of operation over a 10 year period.

At $159.00 divided by 10 equals $15.90 per year. Taken to the next level, that’s about 4 cents a day. I think you can see the value here. But now just for fun lets figure on a 30 year lifespan. $159.00 divided by 30 equals about $5.30 per year. Boil out all the fat and you’re looking at about a penny and a half a day for the next 30 years.

So perhaps you can understand why I labeled this Blog FALSE ECONOMY. There is a host of cheaper products available, HOWEVER!!! Just like those boots I bought in 1972 the best value for your operation just might be the Walters Watervalves you buy in 2025.
